Regular price €8.50 Sale

Porcupinefish, "hari-senbon". An odd-looking fish with many spine-like needles poking out of its skin. They inflate the bodies when threatened, and are about 15 to 70 cm long. They live in rocky reefs or on sandy sea floors and have very strong teeth that they use to crush shellfish and sea urchin, which they eat as their main diet. Although they belong to the pufferfish group, they are not toxic. They are usually sliced raw for sashimi, cooked in a hot pot or fried.
