The weaved scarf is tied-dyed by a shibori craftsman in Kyoto. Part of the iris flower is undyed and the other part got dyed blue. We then embroidered the center of the blooming flower. Banshu area started as the weaving industry over 200 years in Japan. Dyeing the yarn before weaving is what gives this fine cotton fabric a smooth airy texture. Nowadays there are many weaving technics to create beautiful patterns of high-quality cotton. Banshu is an area in Nishiwaki city, Hyogo prefecture. "Ori" means weaving.
