Bonito "katsuo" is a big, spindle-shaped fish that exceeds 1 m in length. They are fast swimmers and migrate in large groups. Bonito are rich in mineral, iron, and zinc. The first Seared Bonito that are caught in the early summer are a delicacy that inspired a famous Haiku poem. Fatty bonito returning during the autumn season is called "Modori-katsuo", and are excellent for sashimi. Bonito flakes are essential for many Japanese dishes, as well as the most common fish stock. They first came into use during the Muromachi era, 1336 to 1573.

The patches can be ironed on cotton and polyester materials. Use a damp cloth under the iron when ironing, and be extra careful if you are ironing on heat-sensitive materials. Machine-stitching is recommended to enhance strength.
