The Japanese Mackerel, "Saba", is a cold-water fish of about 50 cm long that is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Because of this, they are believed to help prevent cardiovascular disease and promote brain health. The species most often served as sushi are a type of Mackerel caught in the Pacific with a bluish greenback. Popular recipes are salted and vinegary mackerel, mackerel simmered in miso, mackerel sushi and dried or canned mackerel.
