There are about 45 different species of Pufferfish "fugu" in Japan. 50-70 cm in length, and covered with small spines. They inflate their bodies to scare off predators. Considered to be the tastiest fish around due to their firm texture. They are eaten raw, cooked in a pot, fried or dried. However, in Japan only qualified, licensed cooks are allowed to serve them. This is because the internal organs of the Fugu are highly toxic, and can be fatal to humans.
