"Beauty Holding a Ball and a Fan" by Kitagawa Utamaro
This print features a young woman adorned with a large tortoiseshell comb and a peony hairpin, holding a ball and a fan. Her hairstyle, known as "tōrōbin," became immensely popular during the mid-Edo period. The print captures the vibrant and ever-changing interests of youth. Kitagawa Utamaro is celebrated as one of the leading ukiyo-e artists of the Edo period, particularly known for his beautiful depictions of women.

Our postcards, based on Echizen Washi, illustrate Japanese culture using vibrant colored washi paper. The first theme is "Ukiyo-e."
The term "postcard" comes from "hashigaki," meaning "edge writing." Originally, it referred to written notes or memos on small pieces of paper.
