Japanese Amberjack or "Buri" is seawater fish of about 1 m long in the family of Carangidae. They have a bluish, greenback, and characteristic yellow lines on their side that go from their eyes to their tail. They are called by different names depending on their growth and are an essential part of new year's feasts in the Kansai and Hokuriku regions. They are served as sashimi, "buri shabu" hot pot, or "buri daikon" simmered with radish. The main season for Buri dishes is in the winter.
