Salmon "Sake" are migratory fish that reach up to 1 m in length. They hatch in sweet-water rivers and then swim to the salt-water sea. When they mature, they return to a river, swimming upstream to lay their eggs. They have been an important food source in Japan since the Jomon period about 10,000 years ago. They are also very healthy due to being high in nutrition such as protein, omega-3, and vitamin D.
