This 50 cm long bird used to be trained and used for falconry in ancient times. They have characteristic white eye stripes, black eye patches, a hooked beak, and sharp claws. They live in forests all over Japan where they eat small mammals and other birds. They have a flying speed of around 80 km per hour but can reach speeds of 130 km per hour during dives.
*Bright colored bird patches are easily ironed onto any fabric like T-shirts, handkerchiefs or your favorite bag. Iron them on, and take a walk. You might just spot a Hawk.
