KUMO-KARAKUSA

The "KARAKUSA" pattern, symbolizing vines that extend continuously without end and representing longevity and prosperity, is creatively reimagined here as large, spreading clouds—called "KUMO" in Japanese.

Flying among these clouds are doves, regarded as messengers of the gods and bearers of good news.

"TENUGUI" is a hand-dyed rectangular cloth that has been used daily in Japan since ancient times.

"KOMON" means "small patterns" in Japanese, and this collection features a series of "TENUGUI" adorned with these traditional KOMON designs.

Many of these KOMON patterns are traditional motifs cherished by common people for over 100 years. Each pattern has its own name and meaning, carrying a unique story behind it.
