The story of Bunbuku Chagama
A priest once bought a tea kettle, but when he placed it over the fire, it cried out in pain from the heat. Disturbed, he sold it to a tool merchant.

That night, the kettle revealed its true identity—it was actually a tanuki (raccoon dog) in disguise. It asked to be treated kindly and, in return, offered to perform entertaining tricks.

The merchant took good care of the tanuki, and its performances became a great attraction. Before long, the merchant grew very wealthy.
