The story of Kachi-Kachi Yama
A sly dog (tanuki) played pranks in the fields of an old man and his wife, and as a result, the old woman was killed.
Furious at this, a rabbit sought revenge. It lured the tanuki into collecting firewood, then used flint to ignite the bundle on its back, shouting “kachi-kachi,” and burned the tanuki severely.
Pretending to treat the wounds, the rabbit applied chili pepper to the burns, and later invited the tanuki fishing—only to send it out onto a mud boat that sank in the sea.
In the end, the rabbit successfully avenged the old woman.
