Inspired by the traditional Japanese tales that begin with “Once upon a time…,” this card features a collage made with washi paper.
The card is folded in two, allowing it to stand upright for display.
The story of
Tsuru no Ongaeshi (Crane’s Return of a Favor)
An old man once saved a crane. That night, a beautiful young woman who said she had nowhere to go, appeared at his home, and they began living together.
The woman said, “Please do not look,” and confined herself to a weaving room, where she wove exquisite cloth.
One day, unable to resist his curiosity, the old man peeked inside and saw a crane pulling out its own feathers to weave the fabric.
Realizing she had been discovered, the crane bid farewell and flew away, never to return.
