Contemporary Mino Ceramics

At MONO JAPAN STORE, we introduce deidei, a ceramic label based in Mitake, Gifu, in Japan’s historic Mino region—one of the country’s most important centres of pottery.

Rooted in the spirit of Momoyama-period Mino ceramics, deidei values the individuality of clay and the subtle transformations that occur through firing. Each piece is carefully shaped to sit naturally in the hand and at the table, with attention to balance, comfort, and everyday use.

Rather than aiming for uniform perfection, deidei embraces variation and the passage of time. With use, surfaces gradually deepen—fine cracks, soft stains, and small marks becoming a quiet record of daily life.

Guided by ceramic artist Toshiro Hori, and supported by a team of makers with diverse practices, deidei brings traditional Mino techniques into a contemporary context—creating vessels that grow more beautiful with time.
