The Japanese sewing scissors (Nigiri Basami) of Banshu Hamono are hand-forged from a single piece of Japanese SK5 high-carbon steel, known for its excellent sharpness, durability, and edge retention. Carefully crafted for everyday use, these scissors offer a precise, smooth cut while maintaining their sharpness over time.

They are crafted to perfection by one of the last few craftsmen in this blacksmith area of Banshu region in Hyogo prefecture.

At MONOJAPAN STORE, we have selected the most versatile 120mm size, which is slightly longer then the normal ones.
These scissors are traditionally used to cut fabrics and threads because the cutting edge of the scissors is thin and sharp, but you can also use it for different purposes. MONO JAPAN STORE staff cherishes them for snipping the kitchen herbs and for embroidery.

The silhouette and colour of this scissors is very beautiful and it’s a treasure to have one of these at home.
Each piece of hand forged scissors is wrapped in local fabric (Banshu weave) cloth and comes in a Japanese washi paper box, making it also a perfect gift to your loved ones.
