The round shape with a weighted bottom, which always returns upright, symbolizes the indomitable spirit of the “DARUMA.†When making a wish, one fills in the left eye, and once the wish is fulfilled, the right eye is filled in. This design is inspired by the “DARUMA,†a traditional good-luck charm.
"TENUGUI" is a hand-dyed rectangular cloth that has been used daily in Japan since ancient times.
"KOMON" means "small patterns" in Japanese, and this collection features a series of "TENUGUI" adorned with these traditional KOMON designs.
Many of these KOMON patterns are traditional motifs cherished by common people for over 100 years. Each pattern has its own name and meaning, carrying a unique story behind it.
