YAMAZAKI NOTOJOFU

YAMAZAKI NOTOJOFU preserves the traditional Notojofu linen—an Ishikawa cultural property—through handwoven techniques passed down since 1891. As the last remaining workshop, it brings this refined textile into modern fashion and lifestyle.

Nōtojofu refers to a high-quality linen textile, distinguished by its refined kasuri patterns created through unique Noto techniques such as comb-resist printing and roller dyeing. Recognized as an Intangible Cultural Property of Ishikawa Prefecture, these textiles are still handwoven using traditional methods. Their elegant patterns—ranging from crisp kasuri motifs to subtle stripes—combined with calm, natural tones, reflect the climate and culture of the Noto region, offering a timeless aesthetic that feels both rustic and modern.

Yamazaki Asa Orimono Workshop Co., Ltd. was founded in 1891 as a dyeing house. At its peak in the Showa era, there were more than 120 producers of Notojofu。Today, Yamazaki remains the only workshop carrying on this tradition. With over 130 years of history, the company continues to preserve and pass down artisanal techniques such as hand-crafted kasuri, along with the cultural values and refined aesthetics of traditional Japanese linen.

To carry this heritage into the future, the brand “YAMAZAKI NOTOJOFU” was established. Rooted in tradition yet designed for contemporary life, the collection reimagines Notojofu in a wide range of forms—from kimono and obi to modern fashion, accessories, and interior items—bringing its quiet elegance into everyday living.
