These vegetables are aquatic plants that are grown in marshes. It was introduced from China about 1300 years ago and is characterized by its crunchy texture and unique bittersweet taste. Used together with sprouts in Osechi, the traditional New Years dish that incurs good luck. They were used as an interim crop in Kyoto during the Heian period (794-1192).

Attention
