Edobei, the leader of a pack of thieves posing menacingly. Inspired by the famous ukiyo-e painted by Sharaku.
Edobei was played by the Kabuki actor Otani Oniji. The artist behind this ukiyo-e (woodblock print), Toshusai Sharaku, is one of Japan’s greatest mysteries. His short career was only 10-months from the years 1794 and 1795, but during this time he managed to produce about 145 different woodblock prints.
