The Ezo red fox (Vulpes vulpes schrencki) belongs to the canid family and inhabits Hokkaido. It measures approximately 45–86 cm in length and weighs between 3–8 kg. Its coat is a rich reddish-brown, with a white underside, black legs and ear tips, and a full tail with a white tip.
Its eyes range from golden to yellow, often with a sharp, cat-like expression. Known for behaviors that resemble those of cats, it lives in interconnected burrows and preys on small animals.
