"Ōtani Oniji as Edo-Bye" by Tōshūsai Sharaku In the kabuki play "Koi Nyōbō Somewake Taduna," Edo-Bye appears as the leader of a band of thieves who is asked by Washizuka Hachihei to ambush Ippē and steal his money at Shijō Kawara. This print captures a moment where he thrusts both hands forward, striking a dramatic pose to intimidate Ippē. His unshaven hairline and eyes outlined in red kumadori makeup are prominently depicted.
Our postcards, based on Echizen Washi, illustrate Japanese culture using vibrant colored washi paper. The first theme is "Ukiyo-e." The term "postcard" comes from "hashigaki," meaning "edge writing." Originally, it referred to written notes or memos on small pieces of paper.
