Paper Mache Cat

Regular price €30.50 Sale

Many of us have cats as pets all over the world. In Japan, the cat is said to have been first bred in the Nara period (710-794) as a beneficial animal to protect books from rats. The black cat is believed to be a symbol of good luck and prosperity because it is only their eyes that glow in the dark.

The paper mache cat is prayed at Manzoku Inari Shrine in Higashiyama, Kyoto.
Hariko is a traditional Japanese toy made of Japanese paper.
It has a fortune paper inside and can be used as a decoration after the fortune paper has been taken out and read. The fortune paper is written in Japanese.
