Tsume 120mm – White Steel
These traditional Japanese scissors, known as Nigiri Basami, are hand-forged from a single piece of Japanese Shirogami (White Steel). This high-purity carbon steel is valued for its excellent sharpness and ability to maintain a fine edge with proper care.
Each pair is crafted by one of the few remaining blacksmiths in the Banshu region of Hyogo Prefecture, an area with a long tradition of metalworking.
The Tsume is distinguished by its characteristic pointed, claw-like form. At 120 mm, this pair is slightly longer than the standard size, offering a comfortable balance between precision and versatility.
Traditionally used for cutting fabric and thread, these scissors have a fine, sharp cutting edge that makes them ideal for detailed work. They are also versatile enough for everyday use — at MONO JAPAN STORE, we love using them for trimming kitchen herbs and embroidery.
With their elegant silhouette and beautiful finish, these scissors are as pleasing to keep as they are to use. Each hand-forged pair is wrapped in locally woven Banshu textile and presented in a Japanese washi paper box, making it a thoughtful gift or a treasured tool for your own home.
