Patch / Ashura

Regular price €0.00 €12.00 Sale

Ashura originally refers to a deity in Hinduism, often associated with power, conflict, and intense emotion. In Buddhism, after encountering the teachings of Shakyamuni, Ashura became one of the Eight Guardian Deities who protect the Buddhist world.

Traditionally depicted with red skin, three faces, and six arms, Ashura appears in a dynamic, armed form that embodies both strength and spiritual transformation.

Collaborating Artist Yōzan Miura

Yōzan Miura is a Buddhist sculptor born in 1973 in Saitama Prefecture. After working in a company for three years following his graduation, he was inspired by the book Kibutsuki by Jun Miura and Seikō Ito to pursue a path in sculpture.

He trained under a master in Shiga Prefecture for 13 years before establishing the Tonomikado Buddhist Workshop in Kamigyō Ward, Kyoto. There, he creates new wooden sculptures, restores historical works, and conducts workshops.

In 2018, he introduced the concept of the “Drone Buddha,” combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. Through this work, he explores contemporary expressions of Amida and the Twenty-Five Floating Bosatsu, bringing Buddhist teachings into present-day life.
