"Ichikawa Danjūrō as the Servant Ippē" by Tōshūsai Sharaku In the kabuki play "Koi Nyōbō Somewake Taduna," Ippē serves as a retainer of the Yurugi family and is portrayed in a scene where he is attacked by Edo-Bye, the leader of a band of thieves, while trying to protect money entrusted to him by his master, Date Yosaku. His disheveled hair spread wide symbolizes the urgency of the situation.
Our postcards, based on Echizen Washi, illustrate Japanese culture using vibrant colored washi paper. The first theme is "Ukiyo-e." The term "postcard" comes from "hashigaki," meaning "edge writing." Originally, it referred to written notes or memos on small pieces of paper.
