About Sencha Kokumaro
It is a well-balanced green tea made from carefully selected tea leaves grown in Kagoshima, a region renowned for its rich variety of cultivars. The tea blends multiple types of leaves, such as Saemidori for its sweetness and Yutakamidori for depth and body, resulting in a mellow and rounded flavor profile. This careful blending process brings together the unique characteristics of each leaf into a single, harmonious cup.
At the heart of Kokumaro’s signature taste lies a highly specialized roasting technique called chō-asairi (ultra-light roast). Designed to preserve the tea's natural, almost “raw” qualities, this technique brings out the pure sweetness and aroma of the original leaves. It is a delicate process that allows no margin for error—requiring absolute precision from growers, appraisers, and roasters alike.
Only a tiny fraction—less than 1%—of all Japanese tea production meets the strict standards needed for this method. The result is a tea with a clear, vibrant green hue and a taste that is both mild and deeply satisfying.
