A bold depiction of the Gasha-dokuro (skeleton spectre) is intricately embroidered on a coarsely woven fabric bag. It features durable, adjustable leather handles for comfortable use. By folding both sides inward and fastening them with the interior metal clips, the bag can be styled into two distinct shapes.
The design is inspired by a triptych ukiyo-e print by Utagawa Kuniyoshi, one of the most renowned painters of the Edo period. The scene originates from the historical fiction Chūgiden, in which Princess Takiyasha summons a monstrous skeleton to battle the lord who killed her father. This powerful image later became the iconic representation of the legendary Gasha-dokuro.
